The Inspiration Behind the Mission

This program is rooted in the personal experience of a family that navigated the complexities of deafness and successfully utilized technology to thrive. We combine professional executive discipline with a deep, firsthand understanding of the emotional journey from silence to recovery.

Nicolas | Lead Mentor and Peer Leadership

As a 17-year-old who successfully moved from a diagnosis of profound deafness to hearing recovery, our Lead Mentor represents the “Why” of our organization. He offers what no medical manual can: living proof of success and a firsthand perspective that transforms fear into an action plan.

Hopeful Hearing Promise

Our values serve as the decision-making framework for every mentor, staff member, and partner we work with.

  • We don’t just sympathize; we relate, because our foundation is built on the lived experience of this journey.

  • We provide honest, transparent guidance to empower parents to act, whether the news is difficult or hopeful.

  • We believe hearing capacity should not be a privilege of the wealthy and work to dismantle financial barriers for all families.

  • We treat the child’s ear and the family’s heart, focusing on the medical, psychological, and social dimensions of hearing loss.

  • We foster a network where “successful” families lift up “new” families, creating a cycle of perpetual support.

A Trusted Branch of the Community

Hopeful Hearing is funded by the El Paso Community Foundation (EPCF). This partnership ensures that our organization meets the highest standards of regulatory compliance and transparency while providing immediate tax benefits for our donors.

A Message of Hope from Our Lead Mentor

I am dedicated to creating a program that fosters in giving the necessary help to parents of deaf children by supplying hope, guidance, and a community to rely on. This idea came from my family's personal experience and struggle of knowing what my future would look like without the necessary technology. Throughout my life, I have learned the importance of the available tools needed to create a successful deaf child. Although there are resources available to use, parents lack a space to control their stress, ask the right questions, and learn to support their child's journey to success, which is why this program will be designed to provide help to this certain community.

The main focus of this program is to serve parents of hard of hearing children, especially the ones that feel stressed and uncertain about the future and safety of their child. Parents will struggle with various concerns regarding communication, education, and whether they will ever get to hear their child's voice. This program will address those concerns directly through peer connection, reassurance, and education. At the peak of the program, I want to be able to focus on making sure that not all parents are alone in their situation. I want to be able to have successful parents that went through the journey with their child reflect on their past situation with the struggling parents.

Currently, this program is in the early idea stage and I don’t intend on starting big immediately, but rather begin small and grow it thoughtfully. Learning from my mentor, professionals, and listening to feedback will help me to move forward and be central to the development of what I believe is commitment.
